Warren Buffett has announced a massive $6 billion donation of Berkshire Hathaway stock, continuing his pledge to give away his fortune. The 94-year-old billionaire said Friday he’s donating 12.4 million Class B shares to five foundations.
The biggest beneficiary is the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Trust, set to receive 9.4 million shares worth $4.6 billion. The Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation will get 943,000 shares, while the Sherwood, Howard G. Buffett, and NoVo foundations each receive about 660,000 shares.
Buffett’s net worth stood at $152 billion on Friday, according to Bloomberg. Since his 2006 pledge to donate most of his wealth, Buffett has given away over $60 billion in Berkshire shares, exceeding the total value of his holdings at the time of the pledge.
“I have no debts and my remaining A shares are worth about $145 billion, well over 99% of my net worth,” Buffett said, adding that his success comes from “a very long runway, simple and sound decisions, the American tailwind, and compounding.”
