Uber Technologies has appointed former Tesla executive Rebecca Tinucci to oversee its transition to electric vehicles (EVs). According to an internal memo seen by Reuters, Tinucci will join Uber as Global Head of Sustainability on September 16, leading the company’s push towards a zero-emission platform by 2040.
Uber has committed to fully electrifying its vehicle fleet by 2040 and has pledged $800 million through 2025 to support this goal. Tinucci, who previously led Tesla’s EV charging team, will report to Andrew Macdonald, head of Uber’s mobility business. In addition to overseeing the EV transition, she will manage sustainable packaging partnerships and efforts to reduce plastic waste in restaurant deliveries.
Macdonald praised Tinucci’s industry expertise, highlighting her valuable connections across the automotive sector. Tinucci’s experience at Tesla, where she played a key role before large-scale cost-cutting measures were implemented, positions her as a significant asset for Uber’s sustainability initiatives.
Uber has been collaborating with top EV brands like Tesla and BYD to encourage the adoption of battery-powered vehicles. The company recently reported strong second-quarter results, driven by high demand for ride-sharing and food delivery services as people return to offices and resume normal activities.
