Meta Platforms Inc. is rolling out its AI chatbot, Meta AI, to 21 additional countries, including the UK, Brazil, and several nations in Latin America and Asia. The chatbot, available on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger, allows users to converse and get recommendations. Meta AI is also integrated into the company’s smart glasses and mixed reality headsets. Almost 500 million people use Meta AI monthly, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced recently.
The expansion, which starts Wednesday, will add language support for Tagalog, with Arabic and Thai coming soon. Eventually, Meta AI will be available in 43 countries and 12 languages. This marks a significant push by Meta to integrate artificial intelligence across its platforms, a move credited with boosting user growth and advertising success. Meta’s shift toward AI, which demands substantial computing power, comes as the company pivots away from its earlier focus on the metaverse.
While Meta plans to expand its chatbot to the EU, those efforts have faced regulatory challenges, particularly concerning the use of public posts for AI training and personal data privacy. The company has paused its European rollout plans following pushback from the Irish Data Protection Commission.
