Emirates Airline President Tim Clark has confirmed that the carrier is not currently pursuing an immediate deal to acquire Airbus A350 jets, citing ongoing challenges in negotiations with engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce. Clark’s statement comes in the aftermath of the airline’s substantial order for 90 Boeing 777X jets at the Dubai Airshow. While addressing reporters, Clark emphasized Emirates’ focus on durability and maintenance cost improvements as prerequisites for considering the Airbus A350. The airline’s strategic move to expand its fleet also included an additional order for five Boeing 787s, with the total package estimated to be worth over $50 billion at list prices. Furthermore, Clark expressed growing confidence in the development and certification schedule of the Boeing 777-9, anticipating the 777X to secure Type Inspection Authorization from the US Federal Aviation Administration around February 2024.
