Alphabet Inc. is reportedly in advanced talks to acquire cloud-security company Wiz Inc. for $33 billion, reviving negotiations that stalled last summer, according to sources familiar with the matter. If finalized, this would mark Alphabet’s largest acquisition ever, strengthening Google’s position against Microsoft and Amazon in the competitive cloud-computing market.
Google Cloud has recently turned profitable, though its growth has slowed. The acquisition of Wiz, a fast-growing cybersecurity firm, could bolster Google’s cloud security offerings.
Wiz had previously rejected Alphabet’s $23 billion offer in July 2024, opting instead for independence and a potential IPO. Concerns over regulatory scrutiny in the US and Europe played a role in that decision. While the Biden administration’s policies could provide a more favorable deal-making environment, antitrust concerns remain, as Google is already facing legal battles over its dominance in search and digital advertising.
Despite this, Google’s No. 3 position in cloud computing behind Microsoft and Amazon may help counter arguments about market concentration.
Founded by Israeli entrepreneurs and based in New York, Wiz is backed by Sequoia Capital, Index Ventures, and Insight Partners. The company was valued at $12 billion in 2023. The deal, if confirmed, would be the largest announced M&A transaction of 2025.
